Anne's Story

Life I moved from Michigan in 1972. I finishted college at Eastern New Mexico University where I met the man I married and divorced 20 years later. I have 2 sons, grown and on their own now. One is in construction and is divorced. No grandkids. The youngest is graduated from college with majors in computers and electrical engineering. He has worked construction with his brother summers and breaks. He has been with the same young woman for 5 years. When my boys were small I went back to school- nursing school- and have been working as a nurse ever since. I had found there is no work for a BS in Anthropology except waitressing et al. When people ask me where I have worked, I say it would be easier to say where I haven't worked as a nurse in Northern New Mexico in the last 20+ years. When the boys were young I worked to accomidate their schedules. Because I worked for an agency for many years I have worked in many places and found permanent placements at times. The past couple of years I am working at the Las Vegas Medical Center. It is a State Hospital. I work in one of the long term care facilities. I have found over the past 22 years that I am very good at long term care. The LVMC has very good benifits and retirement, as it is a State job. I love New Mexico and never consider returning to Michiga...Expand for more
n except to visit family. It is usually for a funeral or wedding. There have been a lot of those. When I moved out of Michigan I lost contact with most of the friends I went to school with. I think of them often. I would like to know how they are. I was never one of the cool kids and was very quiet. I still am. I use up most of my social energy at work. There is a lot of people contact at my job and I really enjoy a lot of quiet time on my days off. I live in the country southwest of Las Vegas. I have only one neighbor that I can see. The rest of the land around me is land grant and ranches. The greatest problem I have is keeping the cows off of my land. It is not grazed and there are a few cattle that think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. IT is. I have many dogs and cats. There are some people who seem to think that if they don't want that dog or cat anymore that people in the country want them. They just dump them. Some make it to my house. I take them in and never regret it. Adopted animals are the best. I live in the country on 32 acres surrounded by mesas and the Sangre de Cristos over the top of the western mesas. The Tecolote Creek is the south border of my property. It is quiet, beautiful, almost in the mountains and a spiritually powerful place. I love it.
